Air Guitar World Championships

"The purpose of the Air Guitar World Championships is to promote world peace. According to the ideology of the Air Guitar, wars end, climate change stops and all bad things disappear, if all the people in the world played the Air Guitar. This is why the whole universe is invited to play the Air Guitar for the world peace at the end of the competition."

The Air Guitar World Championships have been organized in Oulu, Finland annually since 1996. The once so absurd an idea has bloomed into an international media event that attracts a wide international league of contestants, audience and media representatives to Oulu, Finland.

The 17th Air Guitar World Championships will pump up the beat on Wednesday 22nd of August 2012. The Qualifying Round for Dark Horses, will be held already on Thursday 23rd August and the spectacular Grand Final of AGWC 2012 will be held this year at Rotuaari, famous pedestrian street area of Oulu, right in the city center on Friday the 24th August. (According to the Finnish liquor licensing laws, the VIP pass to the AGWC World Final doesn't include alcohol beverages.
